Here are the most common concerns when considering dental implants and how we can address these concerns.

COST
Concern—Dental implants are expensive, often costing more than other tooth replacement options.

Resolution—Dental implants might cost more upfront than other tooth replacement options, but it’s worth considering their long-term advantages. Dental implants provide exceptional durability and function by closely replicating natural teeth, offering a long-term solution that preserves jawbone density and supports overall oral health. In contrast, more affordable options like dentures and bridges often demand continuous maintenance, which can impact adjacent teeth and generally do not deliver the same degree of stability and comfort.

Do your own research and talk to my office manager about financing options. We can present financial options or provide third-party financing alternatives. Also, check to see if your dental insurance can cover some of the costs or if your flexible spending account (FSA) can be used.

SURGICAL PROCEDURE
Concern—Implants involve surgery, which can be daunting and could cause discomfort, swelling, or bleeding.

Resolution—I am a qualified and experienced implant dentist. We can offer anti-anxiety medication to reduce discomfort and nervousness during the procedure. Follow my post-operative care instructions carefully to manage pain and reduce any swelling.

Comparison Between Implant, Bridge,
and Dentures When Replacing Missing Teeth

Implants are permanent fixtures surgically placed into the jawbone, offering a strong, stable solution that feels and functions like natural teeth. Bridges are used to fill the gap between one or more missing teeth anchored to the adjacent natural teeth or implants, providing a fixed solution that restores appearance and function. Dentures are removable appliances that replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues, offering a less invasive option but typically requiring more maintenance and adjustment. Each option has advantages and considerations, depending on factors like oral health, budget, and personal preferences.

TIME COMMITMENT
Concern—The implant process can be lengthy, often needing several months from placement to the final restoration.

Resolution—I will explain the timeframe of the entire process before starting treatment so you can plan accordingly. I will keep you informed about each phase and address any concerns about the process.

POTENTIAL COMPLICATIONS
Concern—There is a risk of complications, including infection, implant failure, or problems with osseointegration, the implant's integration with the jawbone and gums.

Resolution—Be mindful of all pre-and post-operative care instructions to minimize and manage any risks. Be sure to attend all follow-up appointments, as monitoring the implant’s progress and promptly addressing any issues is essential.

INITIAL DISCOMFORT
Concern—Post-surgical discomfort and pain can occur.

Resolution—I can prescribe pain medication or recommend over-the-counter pain relievers. Use ice packs to help with swelling, and stick to soft foods while recovering. Be sure to maintain good oral hygiene to avoid infections. Addressing these concerns with your dental care provider can enhance the likelihood of a successful implant experience and manage any challenges effectively.
