PANORAMIC X-RAYS

A panoramic X-ray machine, also known as a panoramic radiograph or orthopantomogram (OPG), is a dental imaging device that captures a single two-dimensional image of the entire mouth and surrounding structures. These images aid Dr. Kau in diagnosing dental conditions, planning treatment, assessing orthodontics, planning surgery, and monitoring oral health over time. Panoramic X-rays are frequently used in dentistry for a variety of purposes.

Assessment of Dental Anatomy: Panoramic X-rays offer a comprehensive view of the teeth, including their position, number, and alignment. Dr. Kau uses these images to evaluate tooth development, identify anomalies such as missing or extra teeth, and assess dental structures such as roots and crowns.

Detection of Dental Pathologies: Panoramic X-rays help detect dental pathologies such as cavities (dental caries), periodontal disease, and abscesses. These images reveal areas of decay, bone loss, and infection, helping Dr. Kau diagnose and treat oral diseases in their early stages.

Evaluation of Wisdom Teeth: Panoramic X-rays are commonly used to assess the development and positioning of wisdom teeth (third molars). These images help Dr. Kau determine whether wisdom teeth are impacted, misaligned, or causing issues such as crowding or impaction, guiding decisions regarding extraction or intervention.

Orthodontic Assessment: Dr. Kau uses Panoramic X-rays to evaluate the relationship between teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures in orthodontic treatment planning. These images provide valuable information about dental and skeletal discrepancies, helping her formulate treatment plans for correcting malocclusions and achieving optimal alignment.

Surgical Planning: Panoramic X-rays are essential for pre-operative planning in oral surgery procedures such as dental implant placement, tooth extractions, and jaw surgeries. These images provide surgeons with valuable information about bone density, proximity to vital structures, and anatomical landmarks, aiding in precise surgical planning and minimizing risks.

Monitoring Growth and Development: Panoramic X-rays are valuable tools for tracking the growth and development of the jaws and teeth in pediatric and adolescent patients. Dr. Kau uses these images to track changes in dental and skeletal development over time, facilitating timely interventions when necessary.
